In my first article I talked about a few general tips on how teens can lower their car insurance rates. Now lets get into more specific thing that you can do in order for you to lower your payments on your monthly rates. I think most kids these days dont focus enough on what type of car they want to buy as far as how it effects their auto insurance prices. I know when I was a teenager just like most others, I wanted to get the slickest looking car with the most horse power in order to impress my friends and everyone else in my school.

My first car was a Honda Prelude that had a computer chip in it to make it go even faster. It was a great car that also got all of the attention that I wanted but it also garnered me a few speeding tickets during my first year of driving it. The Prelude, which made my car insurance payments much higher then normal, went up even higher after those 2 speeding tickets. It also was stolen a few months later so it was a bad experience all together. After that I purchased a used Honda Civic which which attracted very little attention from the highway patrol. As you can see a persons choice of car has a lot of influence over their auto insurance rates.

Another factor in getting cheap car insurance for young drivers is whether you have a job and whether you can hold that job down for a while. When teenagers have a good reputation in their work place this will also show the auto insurance companies that they are mature enough not to make bad decisions on the road.

If you have a part time job and you have held down that job for at least 6 months or longer your risk level starts to come down. The insurance companies want someone who is a low burden to them as far as their lifestyle and work place reputation. If you really want to get your insurance rates down just volunteer for a worthy cause. This is yet another factor that shows that you are maturing as a person and worry about the safety of others, which also means that you worry about the safety of your fellow drivers while driving on the road.
